SNH recognises wildfowling as sustainable activity at Caerlaverock.....BASC Release

BASC has welcomed Scottish Natural Heritage’s acknowledgement that wildfowling is a sustainable activity at Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve near Dumfries.
The acknowledgement features in a consultation document about the future of the reserve from 2009 to 2015. BASC has provided recommendations for the future management of the site for shooting and conservation.
BASC Scotland has a long involvement with the reserve along with the Scottish Solway Wildfowlers and the Caerlaverock and District Wildfowlers Association.
BASC Scotland policy officer, Nicolle Upton, said: “BASC is satisfied that the proposals for managing the natural heritage of Caerlaverock are working well and we are pleased that a pragmatic approach is to be taken regarding the predation of ground nesting birds on the reserve. We are confident that BASC affiliated wildfowling clubs, associated with the reserve, will be prepared to assist with this important conservation management.”
BASC is also recommending more information should be posted about wildfowling and its contribution to the reserve on the Caerlaverock website.
